Mercedes W123 1975-1985

AprCLVALUES

Nice examples start at about £3000 advises John at Avantgarde. Yes, you can buy usable, solid cars for £2000 if you’re lucky, but anything less than that is pushing it. For a really solid low-mileage car, reckon on around £7000. The coupes and estates though will fetch much more: around 50-75% as much again as the saloon, with really nice examples starting at around £10,000.

Triumph TR7 1974-1981

MarchCLVALUES

The TR7 was the most modern of all the TRs and was the biggest seller by far with over 112,000 produced. Despite that, it’s still far cheaper than any of the ‘traditional’ TRs which makes it something of a bargain for lovers of ’70s style. Budget on less than £1000 for a restoration project, with running and presentable coupes starting at £2000. Convertibles in good condition start at around £3000, with a premium for Sprint-engined or V8 cars. Top whack for the TR7 is around £4500 for the coupe and £6000 for the convertible, for which you should be able to secure the very best examples.

Rover P6 & 75

Just under £1000 will buy you either a roadworthy project needing recommissioning or a complete basket case depending on your luck. Move up to £2000 and you’ve a choice of 2000s, 2200s and even V8s with MoTs. At the £3000 level, you’ll find plenty of V8s, with £5000 buying a really nice example.

Triumph Spitfire 1962-1980

JanCLVALUES

You can pick up a Spitfire for just a few hundred pounds but at this level you’re buying a project rather than a running car. Roadworthy Spitfires needing tidying start at £1800, with presentable examples at around £2500, most of them later MkIVs and 1500s. Move up to £4500-£5500 and you can expect a nice car which doesn’t need very much doing to it. Pristine examples will go from £7000.

BMW 6-Series 1976-1989

DecCL92VALUES

Prices vary enormously for the 6-Series and you’ll pick up essentially the same car for £3000 or £6000 depending on your luck. At the £2500 mark you can find 635CSi’s in average condition needing a few jobs but without any major work needing doing, while moving up to £4000-£5000 buys you a very presentable and usable example. At the £6000-£7000 level, you’ll find plenty of really nice examples, with specialist dealers asking £8000-£10,000 for low-mileage examples, especially the sought-after run-out Highline model. Expect to pay significantly more for the M635CSi.
