| BRITAIN’S MOT ‘UNDER REVIEW’ |
| Thursday, 20 January 2011 14:31 |
Following last year’s admission that the prospect of a bi-annual MoT test was being considered, the Government has now announced that a ‘full review’ of the current MoT system is under way. It insists, however, that there is no ‘pre-determined intention of reducing the frequency of testing’.
In a radio interview, Under-Secretary of State Mike Penning – who has responsibility for motoring agencies, including VOSA – stated: ‘Rather, we’re carrying out a full review of a car testing regime that’s been running for fifty years to see if it’s still working in the most effective way.’ Penning is said to be consulting widely with interested parties, including the Retail Motor Industry Federation, which has formed an MoT Working Group and has been asked to advise on the issues affecting the industry. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we hear of any developments or further proposed changes. Meanwhile, if you have any suggestions for improving the current MoT system, we’d like to hear from you.
