When MG Rover went bust in April 2005, the MG TF two-seater sports car went with it – only to be re-launched three years later, when new owner SAIC started sending TF kits from China to the former Longbridge plant for final assembly here in Britain. But now it looks like the very last TF has finally rolled off the line.
The TFs of the last two years have been built in ‘batch production’ of a few hundred a time, with line workers at Longbridge assembling each vehicle virtually by hand. The last batch of cars was built in July, and SAIC has confirmed that no more production is planned. Let’s hope it’s not the last two-seater to wear an MG badge… |
