205 GTI PRICES ON THE UP

NewsGTIIt seems like only a couple of years ago that you could pick up a very well preserved Peugeot 205 GTI for less than £1500. Compared with the Mk I Golf that pre-dated it, the little Pug was something of an enthusiast’s bargain. But times have changed…

So many examples of what’s still one of the most fun hot hatches of all time have been ruined over the years, thanks to a combination of abusive owners and poor upgrades, that all-original examples with low mileages and full histories are now seriously sought after. And that’s why the best examples are suddenly being advertised at £3k or more.

So does this mean more enthusiasts are turning to 1980s hot hatches in general, and that other models will see a similar increase over the next couple of years? Time will tell. In the meantime – and despite the recent price hikes – the 205 GTI is still a tempting buy for anyone looking for the ultimate in 1980s-style fun.
