Thirty-five years on from its launch, Porsche’s entry-level model is no longer derided as a ‘VW in drag’ by armchair critics, and the best examples are rising in value. 911 owners might still accuse the 924 of not being a ‘proper Porsche’, but other enthusiasts are appreciating the 924’s attractions of high build quality, decent reliability, competitive running costs and a prestigious badge. Cheapest of the lot is still the standard 2-litre 924, and we recently spotted a 1984 example in decent order and with a full MoT for £1395. But you’ll pay more for a 2-litre Turbo or a 1986-on 924S – the latter featuring the 944’s 2.5-litre six-pot. The highest price tag we’ve seen this year was just under £9k for an exceptional, 14,000-mile 924S. And while that might seem a huge amount for a 924, you’d probably struggle to find a better, lower-mileage example. So what do you think: has the 924’s time finally come, and does it deserve its new-found favour among classic enthusiasts? Drop us an email with your 924 thoughts and tales. There was a time when you could wave a few hundred pounds under the nose of just about any Porsche 924 vendor and you’d soon be driving away in your new steed, MoT’d and road legal. But according to research carried out by CCM, those days are gone.
