The club’s recent annual meeting saw around 45 vehicles and their owners getting together, with an eclectic line-up that included a 1970s Hiace motorhome and a ’74 Celica ST that has been in the hands of the same owner since it was three years old. Top prize at the event – which took place at Billing Aquadrome – went to an immaculate 1985 Celica Supra. But among the rare models on display were an Avon Celica Cabriolet conversion (one of just four examples built) and an immaculate 1960s Corona fitted with a Celica engine. Club magazine editor Peter Hunter commented: ‘This 20th Anniversary National Meeting was the most successful we’ve had in recent years, with over 30 per cent of club members there to celebrate the occasion. Our shared enthusiasm for Toyotas of the past meant that we had a great variety of cars from the 1960s to the 2000s, and everyone enjoyed the party.’ Further details of the TEC can be found online at www.toyotaenthusiasts.com. |

Back in 1991, many UK enthusiasts still struggled to accept Japanese cars on the classic scene, with the exception of the odd Honda S800 or Datsun 240Z. But it didn’t deter a couple of Toyota fans – Nik Ellis and Bob Willis – from creating the Toyota Enthusiasts’ Club. And 20 years on, the TEC has been celebrating this important anniversary.
