Of all the anniversaries being celebrated during 2012, the MGB’s 50th is sure to be the biggest. And with three major events being organised to mark the occasion – plus a host of other activities – this looks like being a hectic season for fans of the B.

Celebrations will take place at the iconic MGLive! event in June, the Silverstone Classic in July and at the one-off MGB 50 show at Blenheim Palace in September. And any MGB owners attending all of these special trilogy events will be presented with a unique commemorative rally plaque.

With enthusiasts and clubs joining together to create the MGB 50 organising committee, a huge amount of effort is going into arranging the most important MG show season of recent times.

“It’s shaping up to be a tremendous year for the B,” admitted the MG Car Club’s general manager, Julian White. “Each of the three events offers MGB owners something different – and I know many enthusiasts will be keen to attend all three celebrations.” Further activities start in the next few weeks, kicking off with a Round Britain Tour – in which MGB enthusiasts will be invited to transport a special plaque throughout Britain, inspired by the Olympic Torch. And on April 15, a special MGB 50 Birthday Run to the Heritage Centre in Gaydon is being organised, with several starting points from around the country.
